Railway

The Trans-Iranian Railway was a major railway building project started in Iran in 1927 and completed in 1938, under the direction of the then-Iranian monarch Reza Shah. It was entirely built with indigenous capital, and links Tehran with Bandar e Mahshahr on the Persian Gulf in the south and  Bandar Torkaman on the Caspian Sea in the north.

Iran’s road statistics in 2023

By the end of February 2021, there have been 11,728 km of main roads, 1,171 km of secondary lines and industrial-commercial lines in Iran.

According to the latest statistics, from March 2022 to March 2023, more than 44 million tons of goods and about 30 million passengers have been moved by the rail transport network.

Also, in March 2021, Iran has 2,793 kilometers of freeways, 19,894 kilometers of highways, 25,276 kilometers of main roads and 925 road welfare service complexes.

Airports of Iran

In 2021, Iran had 70 active airports through which a total of 15,650,000 passengers and about 14,000 tons of cargo were moved domestically and 3.5 million people and more than 61,000 tons of cargo were moved internationally.
